Content creators, travelers, and hobbyists need all kinds of gear to get the job done. When traveling or in the field, a quality action camera is a must. There’s a need for an action cam for shooting videos and firearm content that isn’t a brick to wear. But, also doesn’t break the bank. The SJCAM C200 and C200 Pro seemed to fit the bill-or at least the bill of a hat.
Top 5 features
1. Pocket size
They’re small, easy to mount, and don’t get in the way. Even when worn, they stay out of your line of sight—most of the time.
2. Stabilization that works
The C200 Pro has enhanced gyro stabilization that smooths out motion without introducing weird distortions.
3. Remote and app control
Both models pair with the app or the included remote, making it easy to start and stop recording without fumbling with physical buttons.
4. Dual case system
Each camera includes two housings: one waterproof and one slim open-frame case. That gives you options depending on the job.
5. Mounting options that matter
These come with a back clip, base mount, curved and flat adhesive mounts, two 3M pads, and standard GoPro-compatible hardware. You’re not forced to buy extras just to use the camera.

Setup
Initial setup was smooth. It takes a few minutes to get used to the button layout, especially on the standard C200. The Pro has a touchscreen, which makes menu navigation a lot easier and faster.
Both models are labeled as waterproof, but I’d call them more “weatherproof” without the case. They’ll handle rain, splashes, and snow. For full submersion, use the waterproof case. Both are rated to about 130 feet with the case installed.

My take
I’ve been using these for range footage and competition shooting. Video quality is better than expected, and stabilization works well on both. Colors look good, though if you’re aiming for cinematic content, you’ll want to tweak them a bit in post.
Even though these are considered lightweight, they still add some weight to your hat. I’ve had to tighten the strap to keep the brim out of my eyes. I also tried a third-party mount that clips to the bill, but it puts the weight at the end. Gravity wins, and it pulls the hat down unless it’s clamped tight to your head.
Wi-Fi connectivity
Wi-Fi connection to my Samsung S20 fails now and then—maybe 1 out of every 20 tries. Usually after trying again it connects right away. I like that when you enter Wi-Fi mode on the camera, it shows a QR code. Scan it with the app and you’re connected. Keep it simple and you’ll have a better time with it.
Microphone
The built-in mic is about what you’d expect. It’s usable for ambient audio, but don’t rely on it for narration or talking head work. I’ve heard you can use an external mic on the Pro via the USB-C port, but I haven’t tested that. If you go that route, know that the case won’t fit, and the SD card and USB port will be exposed. That kills the waterproofing.
App for Android
The app isn’t impressive, but it works. It makes transferring footage to your phone simple. At matches, I’d pull the footage down between stages and review it on my phone—way easier than squinting at the camera screen.
Low light
I haven’t tested either one in low light. I don’t plan to, as that is not the kind of filming I do.
Problems
One thing worth calling out: I managed to overheat the C200 on my very first outing. Temps were in the high 60s, nothing extreme. After that, the camera wouldn’t charge properly and was basically dead. It sat on a shelf for a few weeks and eventually came back to life, but I never trusted it again. SJCAM sent me a replacement—this time, a C200 Pro. That’s the one I’ve been using since.

The C200 Pro adds better frame rates, smoother operation, easier menu navigation, and improved image stabilization. The standard C200 keeps things simple and is waterproof without a case—but in my case, it failed on day one.
Final thoughts
If you’re looking for an action cam to handle range work, shop content, or competition footage without wrecking your budget, there’s a clear winner.
The C200 Pro delivers. It’s compact, reliable, and gives you the features you need without the fluff. The original C200 might be fine, but mine couldn’t hang under real use.
I trust the Pro. I run it hard. It hasn’t let me down.
